LOVE SERVES
In one sense the Pharisees were right; there are two categories of people – holy and unholy. In the holy category is Jesus and in the unholy category is everybody else. We can’t start splitting hairs about who is more or less holy – because we’re not holy – we’re unholy – we’re sinners – every one of us. Simon the Pharisee, couldn’t see that. He could see everybody else’s sin, but not his own.

We often come to Jesus with particular needs but, often, we don't see the depth and breadth of what Jesus wants to do in our lives. When we put our faith in Jesus, he always gives us more and not less than we were hoping for, but sometimes we need help to see that...

SURPRISED BY GRACE (All Age Talk)
Jesus stood up in the synagogue in his home town of Nazareth and effectively announced that he is the Messiah. His hearers assumed that meant blessings for them and punishment for their enemies. But when Jesus intimated that God's grace extended to their enemies, they were outraged and wanted to throw Jesus off a cliff. How do we respond to God's surprising grace? Do we harden our hearts towards God, or soften them towards those we see as our 'enemies'?

GOD'S ABOUNDING GRACE
You may have heard it asked, 'If there's a God, why doesn't he do something about all the evil in the world?' You may have asked that question yourself. Well, evil is so entrenched in our world and in our hearts that destroying evil would mean destroying everything – and God has promised not to do that. In his great love for us, God has chosen the complicated and messy path of grace – a path that would lead God himself to die on a cross for the sins of the world.

HOPE FOR COMPLACENT HUMANS
Noah and the cataclysmic flood is a pivotal event that sees God wipe out humankind because in God’s eyes ‘the earth had become corrupt and was full of violence’ (Genesis 6:11) Today we are going to look at the covenant relationship between God and Noah and see how they can count on each other in the crisis.

ENTRUSTED TO ONE ANOTHER
Genesis full of origin stories: explanations of why things are the way they are. But nestled in the middle of these stories, there is another story. It’s not so much a distant origin story, as it as a story that we all immediately recognise. In chapter 4 of Genesis, we step out of the primordial past, and into everyday life. In this chapter we are shown what lies at the heart of all our relationships: the fact that God has entrusted us to each other’s care. It is an obligation best reflected in God’s horrified response to Cain’s evasive question: ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’

RESPONDING TO JESUS
The light has come into the world, Jesus is here, but different people respond to Jesus in different ways. Some respond with hatred, others with indifference and still others bow down to worship him. Those were the responses that Matthew recorded and, in more than 2,000 years, nothing has changed! The majority of people in our culture will respond to Jesus with hatred, indifference, or worship...
